Veterans Tax Credit

The Veterans Tax Credit is a program for Lebanon's veterans and/or their spouses. The tax credit reduces the total tax owed by the credit amount. Other tax credit and exemption programs exist for veterans with permanent and total disabilities, for surviving spouses of residents killed in action and for paraplegic or quadriplegic veterans.

Application Process

To apply for the Veterans' Tax Credit, bring your Discharge Papers (Form DD-214) to the Assessing Department where you will sign a permanent exemption card. The Assessing Department is located in City Hall at 51 N Park Street, Lebanon, NH 03766. 


To qualify for the Veterans' Tax Credit:

  1. You or your spouse must be an honorably discharged veteran with 90 days active duty service, or be the surviving spouse of a veteran.
    • A surviving spouse receives the credit so long as the spouse does not remarry.
  2. You must be a resident of the State of New Hampshire for at least one year prior to April 1 in the year of application.
  3. Your real estate must be your permanent place of residence. You may only claim one property as your permanent place of residence.
  4. You must have served in a qualifying war or armed conflict.
    • World War I
      • April 6, 2017 - November 11, 2018 extended to April 1, 2020 for service in Russia with certain provisions.
    • World War II December 7, 1941 - December 31, 1946
    • Korean Conflict June 25, 1950 - January 31, 1955
    • Vietnam Conflict December 22, 1961 - May 7, 1975
    • If between July 1, 1958 and December 22, 1961 must have earned the Vietnam Service Medal or the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal.
    • Persian Gulf War
    • August 2, 1990 and the date thereafter prescribed by Presidential Proclamation or by law.
    • Any Other Armed Conflict
    • Earned an Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal or Theater of Operations Medal since May 8, 1975
